Societe Generale makes IT infrastructure changes

7 August 2009

Societe Generale is to begin using a shared services IT platform as it looks to improve its operational efficiency.

The French bank is to use one of the sector's largest IT infrastructure centers to handle its retail banking, financial services, global investment management and corporate and investment banking operations.

Employees from 40 countries will be involved in the Global Technologies and Services project - which is being directed by Bertrand Lemarignier - and 1,000 workers joined the entity in France at the start of last month.

Group resources director and member of the group executive committee Francoise Mercadal-Delasalles said: "This unique services platform is emblematic of our group's will to industrialize our operational model and to mutualize our resources."
Societe Generale operates offices across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania.

Earlier this year, the bank was recognized in the 2009 Thomson Reuters Extel Europe survey, with its global strategy team being named first in the category of economics and strategy research.
