Unity Trust Bank Reduces Carbon Footprint with Microgen E-billing

London - 18 August 2009

Microgen today announced that it is now providing Unity Trust Bank, the specialist bank for charities and social enterprises, with its online statement facility. The new e-Statements service will enable Unity Trust Bank to deliver an improved service to its customers, while furthering its commitment to corporate social responsibility and reducing its carbon footprint.

Microgen was previously providing print and online document management services to Unity Bank. The addition of Microgen’s e-Billing functionality allows Unity Trust Bank to simply and cost effectively deliver statements through multiple channels.

Unity Trust Bank is one of the UK’s truly socially responsible banks and places corporate social responsibility high on its agenda. To support its socially responsible credentials, Unity Trust Bank set an objective to reduce its carbon footprint by complementing its existing online banking offering with a separate e-Statement service for its customers. Under the new system, customers who traditionally receive print statements can opt-in to receive online statements. From these they can then log in and quickly view and manage their current and historical statements online in either a PDF or spreadsheet format.

Heather Brown, Director, Banking Operations, Unity Trust Bank, said: “We are constantly looking for ways to improve the service to our customers and reduce our carbon footprint at the same time. Implementing Microgen’s e-Billing functionality was therefore a natural step for us with our customers now having the advantage of a single view of all their statements in a central database while also saving on paper statements.”

A winner of Credit Today’s Corporate Social Responsibility award, Unity Trust Bank committed to training a farmer through Oxfam for every 50 customers that signed up to the new e-Statement scheme. The incentive has so far led to 30 farmers in the developing world being trained on how to grow and sell their crops more effectively.

Philip Learmont, Managing Director, Microgen Billing Services Division said: “Unity Trust Bank’s innovative use of Microgen’s online solutions reinforces its position as a leader in the provision of socially responsible banking and will enable it to enhance relationships with its customers, who equally value corporate and social responsibility. Our e-Billing functionality can help Unity Trust Bank achieve this while also streamlining its operations”.
