Numerix Introduces Numerix University to Advance Knowledge in Independent Valuation, Pricing and Risk Analysis of Derivatives

8 April 2009

Numerix, the leading independent provider of advanced analytics for the derivatives and structured products markets, is introducing Numerix University – a series of courses designed for financial engineers to learn the foundational skills for pricing and managing complex derivatives. This series was developed and offered exclusively to clients to ensure the best experience with their Numerix solutions. Today, the program will be offered complimentary to qualified Financial Engineers who have been casualties of the economy. Individuals who successfully complete this curriculum will complete a significant step in becoming a “Numerix Certified Financial Engineer” and will be recommended for development projects internally or to Numerix customers and partners.

“As more and more skilled individuals are victims of the turmoil in the financial markets, the ability to learn new skills and stay current on the best practices being developed in the capital markets is critical,” said Numerix President and COO Steven R. O’Hanlon. “Looking ahead, it will take individuals with specialized expertise to help institutions advance valuation and pricing best practices and meet new regulatory demands. This is our way of ‘giving back’ to the financial community and we are excited to share our collective experience with our University members.”

Numerix is presently offering three separate course programs focused on different asset classes. Candidates must hold advanced degrees in financial engineering, applied mathematics or equivalent disciplines and have worked with derivatives at a financial institution or software company. As part of the selection process, applicants will be required to take a brief on-line exam. Similar courses are offered to Numerix clients at a cost of $3,000 per attendee.

Numerix University courses will first be offered in New York. Courses in London and Hong Kong are being planned for later this year and additional syllabi designed for IT professionals will be introduced in the coming months.
