Intercede Joins Globalplatform As Full Member

17 November 2008

Intercede, the producer of the world-leading MyID Identity and Credential Management System, has become the latest company to join international smart card specification body, GlobalPlatform.

As a Full Member of GlobalPlatform, Intercede will take an active role in shaping the association’s strategic direction and the development of its industry-leading, open and interoperable specifications for the entire smart card infrastructure. In particular, the company will contribute to GlobalPlatform’s current standardization efforts for smart card use in identity and access environments at a time of significant interest in such deployments from both the government and corporate sectors.

Alongside other Full Members, Intercede will enjoy heavily-weighted voting privileges and the opportunity to nominate a representative annually for election to the Board of Directors. The company is also entitled to assign representatives to participate on the GlobalPlatform Advisory Council, its technical committees – card, device and systems – task forces and working groups.

Richard Parris, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Intercede, commented: “Our decision to join GlobalPlatform stems from the association’s growing relevance to our core areas of operation. The future growth of corporate and government ID programs depends on there being clear leadership from within the industry on key issues like interoperability and standardization. The sharing of market requirements and technical proposals between members in order to achieve these objectives makes GlobalPlatform not just a standards body but also a practical forum that can add value to Intercede’s business. GlobalPlatform’s structure and the breadth of its membership provide an opportunity for us to add our own voice and learn from other members in a way that can only help the industry as a whole move forward.”

Kevin Gillick, Executive Director of GlobalPlatform, adds: “We are already active in the area of defining clearer standards for smart card-based identity management projects. GlobalPlatform Specifications are helping the industry overcome concerns over security and privacy that may have hampered such deployments in the past and capitalize on increasing market demand. Intercede’s decision to join as a Full Member casts into focus both its own commitment to developing innovative solutions in this area and GlobalPlatform’s ability to harness the combined knowledge of leading companies for the good of the industry as a whole.”
