The Centrale Graduate School (Ãcole Centrale) is a leading French engineering school with locations in Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Marseille and Paris and a long history of excellence in producing engineering graduates. The oldest one, in Paris, was established in 1829 as the Ãcole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in response to a need for professionals trained in the practical applications of major scientific discoveries of the day. In September 2005 the Ãcole Centrale in Beijing was officially inaugurated as a cooperative venture between the Centrale Graduate School and BeiHang University (BUAA) with the support of the Chinese Education Ministry and the French Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs. Three of the six highly intensive years of the course are dedicated to engineering. Upon graduation the students are expected to be tri-lingual in Chinese, English and French, and it is hoped that they will attain highly responsible positions in French or Chinese companies soon after graduation.
