Helps Clarify & Resolve Data Governance Challenges Related to Information Security, Privacy and Corporate Compliance

OpenPages, a leading provider of enterprise governance, risk and compliance management (GRCM) solutions, today announced it has joined the Data Governance Council. The group was formed by IBM in 2005 along with dozens of leading corporations, institutions and technology solution providers in a global effort to develop a "blueprint" of common solutions for challenges that apply to security, privacy, trust and corporate compliance issues.

Data Governance is the process by which companies govern appropriate access to their critical data by measuring operational risk and controlling security exposures. The Data Governance Council is working to redefine the management of data governance policy, the impact of policy on business processes and practices, and the enforcement of policy in IT infrastructure, information management and organizational behavior. Members of the Council are collaborating on ways to address these issues using solutions and business concepts from IBM and its business partners.

"The goal of the Data Governance Council is to address one of the biggest issues for businesses today - managing and controlling the mountains of data that reside within companies," said Steven Adler, chair of the Data Governance Council and program director, IBM Data Governance Solutions. "OpenPages' participation in the Council is a welcomed addition as their expertise around policy libraries will help customers tackle the challenges associated with implementing compliance programs across the organization."

The OpenPages Governance Platform 5.0 provides a modular and integrated approach to governance, risk and compliance initiatives, enabling organizations to implement a unified approach to managing risk and compliance initiatives across different industry standards, regulatory frameworks and custom policies and procedures unique to organizations. Market-leading corporations around the globe in financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, media/entertainment, retail/consumer, energy, high technology, health services and life sciences rely on OpenPages to help them achieve sustainable governance, risk and compliance management.

"We are excited to be working with IBM and the rest of the Data Governance Council to help companies better-manage the risks associated with sensitive data across the enterprise," said Gordon Burns, vice president for business development at OpenPages. "With the 5.0 release of the OpenPages Governance Platform, our partners can create libraries of policies that can be instantiated within our solution to manage on one platform multiple risk and compliance initiatives across the enterprise, whether in business or IT organizations."
