Orc sets new benchmarks for scalable, multi-strategy trading

New York, NY - 9 January 2007

Orc Software (SSE: ORC), the leading global provider of technology for advanced trading, market making and brokerage, has set new benchmarks for scalable, multi-strategy trading based on Orc’s high-performance Liquidator solution running on the award-winning Solaris ™ 10 Operating System (OS) as well as Sun’s Sun Fire ™T2000 CoolThreads Server. Performance testing results measured throughput at more than 5000 orders per second.

“Orc delivers advanced trading technology and is a perfect solution for firms looking to take advantage of new market opportunities,” said Donna Rubin, senior director, Sun Microsystems. “The combined technology solution fully supports on-the-fly trading with no downtime and with little or no introduced latency or additional cost. We are pleased to be working with Orc Software to deliver these advanced trading capabilities on the Sun platform.”

Orc Liquidator’s proven flexible architecture combined with the multi-thread capabilities of the Sun Fire T2000 server provides fastest execution for high trading volumes run over a large number of trading strategies simultaneously. Running the Solaris 10 OS, the most advanced OS available, the Sun Fire T2000 server delivers breakthrough performance with dramatic space and power efficiency.

“Orc Software continues to work with Sun to provide impressive performance enhancements for Orc Liquidator,” says Peter Sibirzeff, Managing Director Sales North America, Orc Software. “The Sun Fire T2000’s multi-threading capability provides real value for the demanding end user by dramatically increasing the ability of Liquidator to scale when required.”

Performance testing was carried out on Sun’s SWaP metric system. The formula Sun developed, SWaP = performance / (space x power), is a simple calculation that allows any customer to run the metric and use the results to compare systems from different vendors.
