Barclays to lose UK business banking head

8 January 2007

The chief executive of Barclays' UK business banking, Peter Harvey, is to step down from the position, according to reports.

The Times claims that Mr Harvey is to be moved from the post as part of a significant shake-up of the business by the bank's chief executive of global retail and commercial banking (GRCB), Frits Seegers.

Although the move has yet to be formerly announced by Barclays, the newspaper said that another executive was already being lined up to replace Mr Harvey.

Meanwhile, Barclays' GRCB unit has hired three new executives to support its global product strategy.

Former Citibank executive Prasanna Thombre and ABN Amro's Mario Choo have joined as managing directors of investment products, while Alvin Lee, also from Citibank, has taken up the role of managing director of dual currency deposits.

"These three are proven professionals with a track record of building business and creating value added customer solutions across the globe," commented global product director Vinit Chandra.
