Eurex reports record trading year

The international derivatives exchange Eurex has reported record turnover in 2006.

In total 1,526 billion contracts were exchanged at Eurex, compared with 1.25 billion in 2005. December saw annual growth of 22.5 per cent with 105 million contracts traded.

Of all product segments, equity-based derivatives recorded the highest turnover in December with 56.3 million traded contracts - 40.4 million relating to equity index derivatives and 15.9 million to equity derivatives.

Fixed-income derivatives saw 49.3 million contracts traded, with 20.9 million contracts on the Euro-Bund Future, 11.3 million contracts on the Euro-Bobl Future and 12.4 million contracts on Euro-Schatz Future.

Over 2006, 731.2 million fixed-income derivatives contracts were traded, 320 million of which relate solely to the Euro-Bund Future.
