SAS, the market leader in the new generation of business intelligence (BI) software, today announced that Allan Russell, Senior Vice President of Strategy, has a new role. CEO Jim Goodnight selected Russell to be a SAS Fellow, which means the 26-year SAS veteran will research and report on emerging trends in the software industry.
âAllan will contribute to the long-term growth of SAS by working with technology innovators among our customers and in the industry,â Goodnight said.
Russell joined SAS in 1980 to help build SASâ nascent European operation. He has since played a critical role in establishing SASâ presence in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Asia Pacific. Over the years, in addition to being a high-tech thought leader, he has been principal author of SASâ intelligence platform, an open and scalable architecture that allows for rapid development of end-to-end intelligence systems.
More recently, Russell co-authored with SAS Senior Vice President Jim Davis and Vice President Gloria Miller a book titled Information Revolution: Using the Information Evolution Model to Grow Your Business. The book provides a framework to manage and use data as a corporate asset and compete in today's global arena.
Russellâs initial research will focus on âthe uses of BI in a process-centric worldâ and examine areas such as business process management, business activity monitoring, SAS workflow tools and integration between SAS and process platforms. âGovernance and flexibility without compromising business performance is the mantra for IT today in an increasing number of organisations,â Russell said. âThis will drive further integration between BI software and modern process platforms. That integration represents a great chance for SAS to continue to be on the forefront of new developments in BI, and I am personally very pleased to be able to continue this innovation as a SAS Fellow.â
Davis said, âThroughout his career, he has been called upon often to paint a vision of where SAS is going in the marketplace. I am pleased that he will continue to speak and write about emerging trends and drive vision discussions with industry influencers.â
