With 13.3 million customers (5.8 million abroad) and around 4,400 branches in Italy, Banca Intesa is Italyâs largest banking group. Around two years ago, the risk management team in London decided to build a new trading and risk management platform in-house for equity-linked structured products. The application is built around Sybase which houses both market and raw data and is surrounded by a computational engine which connects to a grid of 60 computer systems. The aim is to support front office staff to be able to create new exotic instruments on the fly and have them validated from a risk management viewpoint, without delay, to gain a speed to market, competitive advantage. The same system is also now deployed at the head office in Milan.
Banca Intesa turned to DataDirect Technologies as the world leader in data connectivity technology, to provide high reliability and performance for the connection of the critical applications to the database.
Marco Ossanna, head of Risk Management at Banca Intesa said: "We are using DataDirect for .NET because we wanted a managed data provider for Sybase as part of our risk management system architecture. The applications are critical to our risk management and Front Office users and we needed to produce a reliable implementation that can be easily maintained. DataDirect is a supplier we have relied on previously for stable and supported connectivity solutions so we decided to use their .NET product."
John Goodson, vice president of product operations and marketing, DataDirect Technologies said: âBy providing 100% managed code, we ensure that customers like Banca Intesa are able to take full advantage of the benefits in the .NET environment especially in terms of safe and efficient performance.â
