A group of 16 management and training team members from Pfizer’s Animal Health Division assembled from around the country at Somerset County Park and Recreation Commission Lord Stirling Stable to participate in a unique corporate leadership development program designed to meet the needs of their newly formed team.

Goals included creating a positive environment to build intra-team relationships, reinforcing the importance of communication and collaboration in order to achieve successful outcomes and establishing strategic leadership roles throughout the organization.

Executive coaching is a relatively new field that provides practical management training with an additional focus on emotional intelligence and personal development skills. As part of Pfizer Animal Health’s weeklong meeting, Areion, Inc. designed a one-day off-site workshop that included a pre-session assessment, introductions and context setting, ground exercises in the arena with a team of six horses, and a debriefing session. Through a combination of coaching and interaction with horses, the Areion program provided a unique opportunity to deepen the experiential learning process, embody new schemas and support lasting change.

According to several of the participants the workshop was the highlight of the team meeting, calling it a significant memory that placed them all in a better place to work and learn together. They are hoping to incorporate the programs throughout the company going forward.
