Barclays to hire former Citigroup exec

4 October 2006

Barclays has announced the appointment of Vinit Chandra, former regional treasurer at Citigroup's Asia consumer bank.

Mr Chandra will be relocating from his previous role in Singapore to London, working for Barclays' global retail and commercial banking (GRCB) firm as a product director.

He will lead the design and development of GRCB's treasury and investment products, taking up the role from October 23.

"I am delighted that Vinit Chandra is joining Barclays, he has a proven track record of growing business across geographies and has a deep expertise in treasury and investment products," said Frits Seegers, chief executive of GRCB.

"At Citibank he was responsible for managing the balance sheet across 10 Asian countries and protecting the business from market, foreign exchange and rate risk. He introduced a wide range of structured products across Asia in multiple asset classes," he added.

Mr Chandra will report to Mr Seegers in his position leading GRCB.

Mr Seegers recently recruited another prominent employee from Citigroup, Ahmed Khizer Khan, to work on new markets.
