SAS® Risk Solutions for Energy rank in Industry Short List for ETRM

Second-place rankings in ‘Ownership Confidence,’ ‘Fit-to-Market’ contribute to SAS’s strong showing

CARY, N.C. (March 20, 2006) – SAS today announced it ranked second in two categories of Energy Insights’ Industry Short List for Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) rankings of energy trading and risk management software vendors. Energy Insights, an IDC Company, published these results in a November 2005 report entitled, “Industry Short List for Energy Trading and Risk Management,” (Doc #EI10072).

Since, according to Energy Insights1, large utilities spend an average of 13 percent of their budgets on energy trading and risk management (ETRM), it is critical that they understand IT vendors’ respective capabilities and strengths. In the report’s ETRM transactions market ratings, which assessed SAS and seven other vendors for both analytics and transactions offerings, SAS ranked second in overall score in the “Market Opportunity Alignment Ownership Confidence” category. In the ETRM analytics market ratings, SAS tied for second in “Market Opportunity Alignment Fit-to-Market.”

“SAS continues to be the premiere provider of analytics in energy with SAS® Risk Dimensions®, especially when it comes to graphical representation and flexibility,” the report notes. “With the acquisition of RiskAdvisory, SAS is strengthening its presence in the mid-tier as well, bringing in loyal customers who have benefited from RiskAdvisory’s excellent customer service and low-cost implementation,” it continues.

“SAS leads the way in providing both transaction and risk analytics to many of the world’s large and mid-size energy companies,” said Jayne Brown, energy industry marketing manager at SAS. “We are pleased to rank among the few companies on Energy Insights’ Industry Short List for ETRM. Our strong commitment to product robustness, usability and customer service continues to be a hallmark of SAS Risk Solutions for Energy.”
