Financial Express, the leaders in fund selection, research and analysis, has teamed up with publishing giant, Centaur Communications, publisher of a stable of specialist titles, including Money Marketing and Fund Strategy, to launch The Adviser Fund Index (AFI).

The Adviser Fund Index is made up of the recommended portfolios from a panel of leading investment advisers, including specialists from Bates Investment Services, AWD Chase de Vere, Bestinvest, Christows, Charles Stanley and Towry Law* (for a full list of panellists, see Notes to Editors). This is the first time an index has been created that is based on financial adviser recommendations.

There are in fact three indices; AFI Aggressive, AFI Balanced and AFI Cautious. Each index in has consistently outperformed its APCIMS equivalent in the last year, and in the case of the AFI Aggressive, the panel has outperformed the FTSE All Share. The indices represent real fund recommendations made by real advisers on behalf of real clients.

The AFI, the first fund index to be launched in the UK, will be actively promoted by Financial Express, via Trustnet and Analytics and by Centaur titles Money Marketing and Fund Strategy. Headline Money will also carry the AFI as a regular feature.

Craig Wilson, managing director (data and operations) for Financial Express says:
“The UK fund industry was in need of an index that was representative of its own market. Acknowledging that funds are primarily understood by financial advisers, and that advisory firms invest much of their resources in fund research and selection, it became clear that any fund index had to be derived from a representative ‘voice’ and that is what we have created. The Adviser Fund Index is a unique reflection of the kinds of funds being recommended by an influential panel of advisers, and ultimately provides the investment community with a relevant benchmark and flagship for funds.”
