BURLINGTON, MA, LONDON, MELBOURNE and SINGAPORE, October 5, 2005 â A record 535 attendees, including 425 clients and partners, participated in the Sixth Annual Charles River Client Conference held last week in Boca Raton, Florida, according to Charles River Development, a leading provider of financial software and consulting services to the global investment management community.
The three-day educational event, Discovery 2005, attracted traders, portfolio managers, and technology, compliance, and operations personnel from around the globe including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, South Africa, Chile, Canada, Ireland, and Germany, among other countries. The conference schedule included over 70 one-hour sessions including presentations, client panels and roundtable discussions as well as the Application Lab, which featured hands-on PC-based learning. Session content spanned existing, new, and future product functionality and services, and allowed participants to network and compare best practices with their peers. A demonstration center staffed by Charles River Investment Management System (Charles River IMS) product-certified experts provided clients with an opportunity to test-drive new features specific to their workflows.
Conference highlights included the unveiling of ComplianceAnywhereTM, which provides mobile, Web-based access to Charles River Compliance investment monitoring data, as well as discussing many of the over 2,800 new enhancements included in the October Version 8 release of the firmâs award winning Charles River IMS. Charles River IMS is a comprehensive front and middle office software suite for portfolio management and modeling (Charles River Manager), order management and electronic trading (Charles River Trader), real-time compliance monitoring (Charles River Compliance), and centralized post-trade communications (Charles River Settlements) for all security types.
"Client feedback on this yearâs Annual Client Conference has been overwhelmingly positive. Clients were able to see, first-hand, the power, flexibility and scalability of the Charles River IMS N-tier architecture including new Web administration tools that enable users to easily manage the system," said Peter Lambertus, president and CEO of Charles River. "In addition, clients viewed many functional enhancements. Just one example is the extensive work weâve completed with regards to foreign exchange (FX) where clients can automate the entire FX trade cycle. We demonstrated new features for automatic FX order creation and aggregation for FX Spots, CFWDs, and FX SWAPs and clients witnessed how the system supports numerous FX trading workflows, including electronic trading. Like many of our new features, our FX enhancements are comprehensive in that they go beyond trading into every aspect of the product â portfolio management, compliance, and reporting."
"The Charles River Client Conference exceeded my expectations and was a unique opportunity to meet Charles River's product management, support, and implementation teams face-to-face and discuss particular needs specific to my company," said Andrew Mika, senior vice president, investment operations at OppenheimerFunds. "The multitude of session topics provided all the OppenheimerFunds attendees with relevant discussion and learning points. There was also particular value in networking with peers, providing me with the opportunity to share, compare, and learn from the experiences of other Charles River clients."
"Networking with my own peers at the Charles River Client Conference is invaluable. In addition, the helpfulness, knowledge, and professionalism of everyone globally associated with Charles River is second to none making my job as a trader a lot easier â especially when discussing current and future technology features within Charles River IMS," said Anthony Russell, associate director, global equities trader at Newton Investment Management. "Having the latest versions of Charles River IMS at my fingertips throughout the conference allowed me to truly maximize my time away from the trading desk by reviewing, testing, and providing valid input into the direction of the product. It was also a terrific venue to conduct one-on-one brain storming sessions with Charles River IMS developers and the hands-on demo center helped me get a good feel for the current and future versions of the system. Within Version 8, I feel that Charles River has listened to and addressed client needs by creating a more expansive product that covers all aspects of the business in a much more detailed way."
Matt Olivo, compliance associate at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. stated: "I felt the conference was very useful. There were several helpful and informative seminars provided by Charles River, and more importantly, it was a good forum for meeting other users to share knowledge and discuss common issues with using Charles Riverâs software, and to discuss challenges in compliance monitoring in general."
Twenty-eight of Charles Riverâs partners exhibited in the conference Partner Pavilion where they demonstrated their products that interface with Charles River IMS.
