Sunopsis, one of the worldâs leading data integration specialists, has signed a number of new customers in the rapidly developing Australian market, including the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries and ANL Container Line Pty Ltd.
The New South Wales (NSW) Department of Primary Industries (DPI), established to give rural and regional NSW a stronger voice in government and to better support primary industries in NSW, selected Sunopsis for its data integration projects.
DPI was formed in 2004 by the merger of the NSW Department of Mineral Resources, State Forests NSW, NSW Agriculture and NSW Fisheries. Today the department has approximately 3000 staff based in over 130 locations across the state. This, coupled with revenue (including mining royalties) of just over AUD 1 billion [GBP 420 million], positions them to provide effective support for NSW's primary industries. DPI is building a powerful real time spatial query system which will allow users to spatially query information relating to land within NSW. The system is the first of its kind in NSW and will be used extensively in emergency management. DPI is depending upon Sunopsis to manage the data movement and transformation.
The bulk of the data resides on Informix and some Microsoft SQL Server databases. Eventually, other systems for data integration projects will include Oracle, Universe, DB2 UDB, and SAP.
ANL Container Line Pty Ltd, a major shipping and logistics company and subsidiary of CMA CGM Group in France, has also selected Sunopsis for a variety of upcoming data integration projects. By using Sunopsis, ANL is expecting to significantly increase efficiencies in integration and maintenance of systems.
"Our parent company chose Sunopsis a number of years ago. That of course prompted us to see what kind of synergies we could realise by selecting Sunopsis," said Mr. Dilip Magan, Head of Information Technology at ANL. "At first I was reluctant as I had not heard of Sunopsis before, and my experience with data integration software in the past was that the benefits promised rarely lived up to the investments in time and money required. However, with the strong recommendation of our parent company, our team thoroughly and easily evaluated Sunopsis on our own systems within weeks and test-drove the Sunopsis technical support as part of the evaluation."
"Over the last nine months we have significantly increased our IT investment. Sunopsis is expected to deliver real benefits in time and effort across a number of projects â data warehousing, financial systems implementation and systems rationalisation project. Our tests thus far show that Sunopsis will cut down the development time dramatically. We found Sunopsis surprisingly easy to install and to use. And the support has been excellent. Therefore, we chose Sunopsis with confidence and look forward to our success with the product."
"We clearly have an edge on the technology side," said Andrew Lampitt, General Manager of Sunopsis Asia-Pacific, who launched the operation in Singapore in 2003.
"Sunopsis is already making tremendous headway in the burgeoning Australian market be that either the public or private sectors. As these two major contracts illustrate our appeal lies across the board and our challenge is to ensure we develop and grow our existing business relationships â technology partners, system integrators, and resellers âkey to our growth in the region."
