"The vision for Sun and StorageTek has always been to combine our strengths in the most supportive, strategic way possible, and to jointly deliver the best automated tape technology solutions the market has seen to date to the benefit of our global customer base," said Bob Koecheler, StorageTek vice president, global partners and alliances. "As we enter the sixth year of our partnership we mark today's success by offering the full feature set for enterprise-class solutions: multi-platform support, tiered tape storage, automation of management and opportunity for lower overall storage cost of ownership."
"We are committed to changing forever the way storage is architected, implemented and managed," said Tim Pawloski, Senior Director, Sun Network Storage Products Group. "Our partnership with StorageTek will unleash compelling new revenue opportunities with unprecedented levels of sharing between the Sun and StorageTek sales teams."
The SL8500 is the first offering in StorageTek's next-generation StreamLine family of enterprise information lifecycle management solutions, providing unmatched consolidation capabilities, high availability, performance and scalability, while minimizing the footprint in the data center.
The agreement gives StorageTek more access to Sun's 6,000-strong sales professionals and opens up new joint marketing and selling opportunities. For enterprise customers that require bullet-proof back up and recovery capabilities for mission-critical-data, StorageTek and Sun now have the opportunity to provide the ideal solution to address the consolidation of enterprise and midrange computing infrastructures. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
StorageTek will host live demonstrations of the SL8500 at the 2004 Storage World Conference in Long Beach, Calif., June 28 - July 1, 2004, at booth No. 409.
