AVENTAIL EXTENDS TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP IN ANYWHERE CLIENTLESS REMOTE ACCESS

Aventail ASAP Platform raises the bar for ease of installation, hardened security, policy administration and enterprise breadth of SSL VPNs

June 30, 2003 -Aventail (www.aventail.com), the world's leading provider of clientless SSL VPN appliances and services, today announced the new version of its award-winning Aventail® Anywhere Secure Access Policy (ASAP™) Platform. Available from today as an SSL VPN appliance or managed service, the latest ASAP 6.3 release includes a more intuitive and highly configurable Web management console, additional hardened security, enhanced policy management and improved application and platform support. The new customer-driven functionality of ASAP reinforces Aventail's continued leadership in extending anywhere secure remote access without the burden of traditional VPNs.

With its proven Web, Java, and Windows-based access options, the newest version of the ASAP Platform further extends the broadest secure remote access coverage for employees, suppliers, business partners and customers. These feature additions emphasize Aventail's continued strategy to provide the most powerful SSL VPN solution in an easy-to-manage integrated platform.

"The increasing need for organisations to integrate anywhere remote access into their business processes without the costs, complexities and headaches of deploying and managing client software is driving the SSL VPN market," said Tony Caine, newly appointed vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa for Aventail. "Aventail has been delivering clientless SSL VPN technology since 1997 to over 450 global organisations and is in the strongest position to take a lead with the industry's most advanced and proven clientless SSL VPN."

New and Enhanced ASAP Features
* Highly Configurable Management Console for Quick, Flexible and Easy Set-Up: With ASAP 6.3, Aventail has advanced its Web interface for an even more intuitive experience. Now an IT administrator can easily take advantage of the depth offered by Aventail's ASAP policy engine through the Web management console. In addition, Aventail has also strengthened its command line interface, giving IT administrators a powerful command line for customising automated scripts such as scheduling a back up, preparing an automated reboot, archiving logs, or scheduling a maintenance window. Together, the Web console and sophisticated command line management, provides the most flexible SSL VPN on the market.
* Advanced Security: New additions to the ASAP Platform include additional security hardening of Aventail's appliances for multiple layers of protection against attacks. Hardened security, combined with Aventail's already strong and robust proxy technology gives global organisations all the security they need in an SSL VPN.
* Enhanced Policy Management: One of Aventail's key differentiators has always been the power and depth of its policy management. With new and improved policy management, including more advanced control by source, time and date, cryptography strength and a number of other variables, Aventail further advances its unique ability to offer a single view of all policy access control rules. For example, IT administrators have more flexibility to define access rules based on their unique and complex access requirements, including making rules based on multiple groups, to ensure overall policy, strategy, integrity, and security.
* Improved Application and Platform Support: With ASAP 6.3, Aventail has improved its Web application support, including deeper support for complex CRM, legacy and ERP applications like Siebel and PeopleSoft.

"The Aventail ASAP Platform uses strong encryption, SSL, and other proven security mechanisms and provides exceptional usability features for IT staff as well as users - from occasional day extenders, to teleworkers and travelers, to power users," said Fred Avolio, respected Internet security expert and president of Avolio Consulting.

"All of this, combined with Aventail's proxy architecture, flexible authentication schemes, strong cryptography, access control and improved system hardening, makes ASAP a highly secure platform," adds Avolio.
