The PeerStorage Array 100E Sets the Bar in Management and Affordability
for iSCSI Networked Storage Solutions

NASHUA, NH, June 2, 2003 – Delivering on its commitment to provide self-managing
networked storage solutions for the mid-range storage area network (SAN) market,
EqualLogic™ Inc., today announced the general availability of its first PeerStorage™ solution – The PeerStorage Array 100E. This RAID, block-level array ushers in the next evolution of enterprise-class shared storage by delivering fast, flexible storage provisioning and automated, self-managing storage for as low as $0.012 per megabyte. Employing IETF Internet SCSI
(iSCSI), a technology estimated to connect close to 1.5 million servers to SANs by 2006 (Gartner Dataquest, June 2002)*, the PeerStorage Array 100E raises the bar on management and affordability in IP-based SAN solutions.

"Simple, cost-effective SAN solutions that leverage existing skills and infrastructure represent a large opportunity within Fortune 500 and mid-size enterprise markets," said Robert Gray, research vice president of Worldwide Storage Systems Research at IDC. "EqualLogic saw this need early and is now shipping one of the first native iSCSI products. The company's list of
customers includes a 'who's who' of financial institutions. The PeerStorage Array 100E is well positioned as an affordable SAN that is easy to use, regardless of scale."

With EqualLogic’s PeerStorage Arrays, the burden of establishing, maintaining and expanding shared storage is dramatically simplified. Built on the patent-pending PeerStorage architecture unveiled in January of this year, the PeerStorage Array 100E significantly reduces the complexity of storage administration by automating key functions associated with configuring,
scaling and managing networked storage. "When it comes to building and maintaining network infrastructures, organizations face a number of challenges. Taxing valuable resources – mainly time, staff and money – to support their current and future storage needs should not be one of them," added Peter Hayden, chief executive officer and co-founder of EqualLogic, Inc. "PeerStorage Arrays fundamentally alter the economics of shared storage, directly addressing customers’ need for comprehensive, costefficient, scalable SANs. The fact that our beta sites are now buying the product solidifies the proof of the concept and endorses the technology."

EqualLogic continues to collaborate with leading storage and networking component vendors to create solutions for today’s heterogeneous computing environments and ensure full interoperability with widely deployed operating systems. Microsoft has been instrumental in providing consistent feedback throughout product development. Microsoft’s commitment to providing stronger platforms for storage and EqualLogic’s delivery of self-managing arrays
means more accessible and affordable storage solutions for customers using Microsoft Windows 2000 client and server versions, Windows XP client, and the forthcoming Windows Server 2003 family of products.

"The storage industry has reached a crossroads where interoperability and adaptive intelligence will define the way vendors and customers approach storage management," explained Zane Adam, director of Product Management and Marketing of the Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft. "Microsoft has tested EqualLogic’s PeerStorage Array 100E for interoperability with
the Microsoft iSCSI software initiator in our iSCSI development lab and we are very happy with the results. We are excited at the value proposition that solutions like EqualLogic’s PeerStorage Array 100E can bring to the marketplace. For our mutual end customers, this means simplified, more cost-effective storage solutions that will operate efficiently well into the future."
EqualLogic has completed successful trials with a number Fortune 500 and mid-market companies across multiple industries, including leading financial services institutions that are looking to consolidate direct attached storage or extend SAN support to include key business applications.

The PeerStorage Array 100E offers several key benefits:
- Self-managing Technology Simplifies Overall Storage Management
Greater collaboration and automation is achieved within PeerStorage Groups as newly added arrays quickly "learn" from existing ones and share equally in dynamic load balancing, network balancing, and assigning volumes to RAID.

- Modular Design Provides Optimal Storage Configuration
Through a modular design, including redundant and hot-swappable components, the
addition of new arrays can be completed within minutes without rebooting or disrupting server applications. Expanding and maintaining storage is now affordable and achievable without sacrificing the quality or integrity of the total solution.

- Standards-based Architecture Ensures Interoperability and Reliability
The PeerStorage Array 100E also includes a Serial ATA drive interface and support for RAID 10 and RAID 50 in delivering a highly reliable and fault-tolerant solution.

- Automated Management Lowers Total Cost of Ownership
PeerStorage technology eliminates time-consuming operations and improves storage
provisioning, reducing overall acquisition and operating costs by up to 75 percent.

Pricing and Availability
The EqualLogic PeerStorage Array 100E is immediately available starting at $28,250 MSRP, which includes all snapshot creation and management tools; integrated Web-based, telnet, and SNMP management tools; as well as built-in security. The PeerStorage Array 100E will be available through OEM and a select group of partners.
