Horton begin his career at NCR Corporation as a systems engineer, becoming a systems engineer manager and then a district manager for the company, where he was responsible for all phases of computer systems implementation and ongoing software and application support in Alabama and Mississippi. He then served as a systems integration and project management partner for AT&T GIS. In 1995, Horton joined SBS Corporation as vice president of customer service where he managed a staff that grew from seven to 53 during his tenure. In 1999 Horton become vice president of implementation and support for Netzee Corporation, where he was responsible for the implementation and support of 350 Internet banking and 400 telephone banking customers nationwide. Most recently Horton was vice president of SBS Data Services, Inc., where he was responsible for management of all data center activities including operations, systems, networking, implementations, and customer service.

Horton has a B.S. in Accounting and a MBA from The University of Alabama.
