deliver its communications technology services for the next ten years. The
deal will see Bradford & Bingley outsource its communications requirements
to BT following a strategic review of its supplier base designed to generate
cost savings and increase flexibility.
Under the terms of the deal, BT will deliver a portfolio of managed
voice and data services to Bradford & Bingley's 7,500 employees. These
include wide and local area networking to connect more than 550 sites across
the UK, as well as collaborative tools, security services and hosting
Bradford & Bingley's internet and web-based customer services. By opting for
managed services, Bradford & Bingley will be able to react quickly to
changing market demand and focus on the services that add value to its
customers, rather than the underlying infrastructure.
The key elements of the deal are:
- Managed, hosted internal and external email based initially
on Lotus Notes
- Managed e-infrastructure and security services including
firewall management, intrusion detection, virus scanning, websweeping and
- Disaster recovery services
- Remote dial-up connectivity into Bradford & Bingley's
network for more than 1,000 independent financial advisors
- Managed web infrastructure and web hosting to support the
online financial services offered by the company

Other services managed by BT under the terms of the contract are
videoconferencing services, voice services management, customised invoicing
