Bedford, MA - February 12, 2003 - SunGard Futures Systems, an operating unit of SunGard (NYSE:SDS), announced today that it will host "Futures Industry Career Day" on Tuesday, February 18 at Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). About 40 students from four Chicago-area high schools will attend the full-day event to gain an authentic introduction into the world of futures trading. The students will take a guided tour of the exchange, learn about the experiences and backgrounds of industry experts, and track their own futures trades in a simulated live market using SunGard technology.
"We salute SunGardâs initiative in organizing a comprehensive career day that will expose these students to potential careers in the futures industry," said James McNulty, president and chief executive officer of Chicago Mercantile Exchange. "We are pleased to support this event by providing our facilities and a mock trading component that will offer these students a hands-on learning environment within the futures industry. We hope this experience will spark their interest in the vast range of opportunities our business offers."
Following a welcoming speech by Mr. McNulty, Bettina Slusar, SunGard corporate vice president of global accounts, and Steve Auerbach, president of SunGard Futures Systems, will discuss their industry backgrounds and give the students advice on how to become part of and achieve success in the futures trading arena. "A career in the futures industry probably has not even occurred to many young adults as they contemplate their options," said Mr. Auerbach. "We would like them to come away with heightened interest in this exciting industry, and knowledge of the various transferable skills and other qualities that can lead to a very successful career in the field."
Other planned guest speakers include nationally known finance expert, author and television commentator Terry Savage, who began her career as a stockbroker, was a founding member and the first woman trader on the Chicago Board Options Exchange, and is a former member of CME; and Gordon Linn, president of The Linn Group, a market research group and futures commission merchant headquartered at the Chicago Board of Trade. Ms. Savageâs talk will focus on free enterprise, free markets and what they mean for the economy and individuals, while Mr. Linn will give the agricultural/commodities perspective of futures trading.
The students will also view a demonstration of SunGardâs simulated trading system, AudiTrack, and will have the opportunity to book their own mock futures trades on CMEâs E-Miniâ¢â¢ S&P 500 futures contracts, track them electronically throughout the day as if their investments were on the live market, and see the results of their trades upon market close.
When planning the event, SunGardâs goal was to ensure the invited schools represented a cross-section of students from a variety of backgrounds and interests. The students participating in SunGardâs career day will be coming from a combination of public, private, urban, and suburban schools, including: New Trier High School of Winnetka, IL (public), Regina Dominican High School of Wilmette, IL (girlsâ private), Lincoln Park High School of Chicago (public), and St. Patrickâs High School of Chicago (boysâ private).
