Market Doldrums Don’t Deter ProShare’s Investment Clubs

There have been a high level of entries for all nine categories at this year’s ProShare Investment Club Awards, to be held on the 29 April at The Law Society in London; a positive indication that clubs are toughing out the bear market and confirming the belief that equities are a good long-term investment. The annual awards recognise clubs for their achievements in 2002, not simply for best financial performance but also for such categories as best website and best club officers.

The Awards Day starts with a morning seminar including presentations from Alpesh Patel, media commentator and author, Justin Urquhart Stewart, stockbroker and media commentator and BBC presenter Sally Bundock. Award winners will be announced to guests on the day from 14.00 onwards, and to the press at the 16.00 media briefing.

ProShare’s Terry Bond, one of the judges, said: "Considering the volatile market conditions that prevailed in 2002 the standard of entries has been very high this year, which has made the judging a real challenge. It’s great to see so many clubs still active and enjoying themselves along the way."

ProShare reports that so far this year over 60 new clubs have been started, and only nine existing clubs have disbanded. Since it was founded, ProShare has helped set up over 11,000 investment clubs across the UK.
