alterna Granted SysTrust Seal on Delivery of Global Liquidity Management Services

Certification Provides alterna Customers Assurance in the Security, Integrity, Availability and Maintainability of alterna's ASP Infrastucture

CALGARY, Alberta - January 31, 2002 - alterna™ Technologies Group Inc., the premier provider of global e-finance solutions, announced today that it has earned SysTrust certification for its ASP data center, which delivers mission-critical financial transaction processing, settlement solutions and bank connectivity to corporations and trading communities.

"Our customers rely on our technology infrastructure to access and process sensitive financial information and billions of dollars in payments across the Internet," said Gonzalo Naranjo, President and CEO of alterna. "SysTrust provides them the confidence and assurance they need and expect to have in our systems. alterna is fully committed to delivering a reliable and secure e-finance environment that meets the highest industry standards."

Ernst & Young LLP issued the SysTrust certification following an audit of the effectiveness of alterna's controls over the security, integrity, availability and maintainability of its data center, called the alterna Shared Solutions Center (alternaSSC). Only providers that demonstrate the highest level of control and operate without material error, fault or failure over a period of time receive the SysTrust seal.

By accessing alterna's family of auros™ liquidity management solutions through the alternaSSC, customers benefit from the highest levels of security, availability and scalable systems performance while minimizing their implementation and technology burdens.

With SysTrust assurance, alterna's customers can be confident that their financial information is processed securely and reliably by the alternaSSC.

The SysTrust seal is issued under guidance established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). A SysTrust evaluation, performed by a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA), measures the reliability of a service provider's system based on the standards set down by the AICPA and CICA relating to security measures, system processing integrity and the ability to update the system while continuing to meet the previously mentioned requirements.
