Merger and Acquisition Reshapes Industry, as Social Media and Media Analysis Demand Drive Growth
Spending on Media Intelligence information and software solutions for public relations professionals grew 5.50% in 2015 to USD2,989.6 million, according to a new report by Burton-Taylor International Consulting LLC.
“Social Media management solutions and tools for Media Analysis led growth”, says Douglas B. Taylor, Founder & Managing Partner of Burton-Taylor, a recognized leader in information industry market research, strategy and business consulting.
“This is an expanding industry, though currency had a significant impact on 2015 numbers, notably for Media Monitoring, Contact Management and Press Release Distribution”, Taylor said. “The strength of the US Dollar robbed the market of as much as 7.00% of growth”.
The Burton-Taylor study shows how merger and acquisition activity is reshaping the industry, with Chicago-based Cision occupying the leading spot, at 11.64% market share. PR Newswire - owned by UBM PLC and the subject of an acquisition bid by Cision - was the second-largest service provider in 2015.
“Media Intelligence providers around the world such as Nasdaq, Kantar Media, Meltwater, iSentia and Business Wire are all jockeying for position,” says report contributor Chris Porter, Director at Porter Walford Consulting and Burton-Taylor Associate.
“At the same time there are a host of long-established regional vendors, such as Argus de la Presse in France and Swiss/German group Argus Group, as well new-generation providers such as Hootsuite, Brandwatch and Socialbakers. The report shows that the Media Intelligence market has grown at a solid 7.11% compound annual rate (CAGR) over the past five years.
