The Barclays Launchpad app will give thousands of customers pilot access to new apps and features
It will also provide a platform for Barclays to work with partners and fintech start-ups to create new digital features and experiences
Barclays has this week unveiled Launchpad – a UK financial services first which gives Barclays customers the opportunity to try out and give feedback on new features and app ideas, helping shape the future development of digital solutions for the bank.
The new digital capability, which will be rolled out to thousands of customers who use the Barclays Mobile Banking app, will capture feedback and usage trends which will be used to ensure that future development of apps and features reflect what customers really want. Barclays Launchpad will also serve as a platform for fintech start-ups and partners to work together with Barclays to introduce new app and feature ideas to the bank’s customers.
To coincide with the unveiling of Barclays Launchpad at this week’s unBound London, Barclays brought together some of the brightest digital minds and start-ups to innovate through a hackathon, designed to create compelling fintech products and exciting customer experiences.
Across both days of the conference, registered teams had access to stubbed banking APIs as well as a prototype Launchpad mobile app and competed to come up with the most exciting customer innovation. Up for grabs for the winning team was an interview for entry into the Barclays Accelerator programme - an intensive 13-week programme designed to accelerate their start-up and the chance to potentially work with Barclays to further develop their winning idea. Competition was fierce and the judges ultimately decided upon three winners; teams from Cyber Duck, TallySticks and PayKey who impressed with their ambitious and exciting prototype designs.
Ruchir Rodrigues, Head of Digital Banking at Barclays said: “Seeing first hand the power that collaboration can have for start-ups, we recognise that we have a role to play in partnering with them to boost innovation and growth. We also think more needs to be done to bring customers into the heart of product and service development so that we can give them more of what they want and need. That’s why we’ve developed the Barclays Launchpad app which enables customers to input into new features, as well as running a hackathon at unBound London, through which we brought together some of the most exciting digital innovators to co-create and work with us to the benefit of start-ups and our customers.”
