Kx Systems releases version 3.2 of its kdb+ database software

The latest version of kdb+ extends multi-core processing and further expands WebSocket support

Kx Systems, a leader in high-performance database and time-series analytics, today released version 3.2 of its kdb+ database software with its built-in programming language, q.

Kx technology has supported multi-core processing for Big Data for many years. In kdb+ 3.2, Kx has further refined its approach, simplifying and extending some elements of multi-threaded data retrieval, which can significantly speed up processing in some applications.

Kx has also expanded the capabilities of its WebSocket support by making it possible for kdb+ to function as a WebSocket client, and adding WebSocket compression. This is particularly useful for applications that are looking to replace Flash or AJAX-based user interfaces with a more responsive, modern interface.

“The new features work under the hood to speed up kdb+ queries,” said Simon Garland, Chief Strategist, Kx Systems. “Users will immediately notice speedups without even touching their code.”

Version 3.2 of kdb+ builds on previous iterations in allowing its users to better make full use of the latest many-core servers. In addition to drastically cutting query execution times, it enables more efficient use of machine resources.

“We have a thoughtful approach to determining which features we add to new versions of kdb+. We are continually doing R&D, and listening to our customers. In the case of version 3.2, we believe these enhancements can provide immediate value to kdb+ users,” said Garland.

Migrating to kdb+ 3.2 is simple from the previous version as it requires no porting of data or code. Users of the free 32-bit version can simply download the latest edition from kx.com.
