Kensho secures $10m for financial technology project

UK-based fintech start-up Kensho has raised $10 million of funding to build what it describes as an intelligent market research assistant called Warren.

According to reports, Google Ventures, Cambridge's General Catalyst Partners, and Maryland's New Enterprise Associates, have all made contributions to the round of funding.

The cloud-based technology created by seasoned Apple Inc and Google Inc software engineers, can answer one million complex financial queries that are grammatically correct, with the object following the subject, on a limited number of topics.

Kensho's team of around 12 engineers are working to account for all variations of the same question, in order to answer correctly every time it is asked.

By the end of 2014, the company said they will upgrade Warren to enable it to answer 100 million questions.

The team is also in the process of building an unstructured geopolitical and natural world event database, which will contain information on hurricanes, which can impact financial industries dramatically.
