Tom Schiller Joins Morningstar as Managing Director of Client Solutions for Asia-Pacific Region

Tom Schiller has joined Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, as managing director of client solutions, Asia-Pacific. In this newly created role, Schiller is responsible for leveraging Morningstar’s presence in the region to develop new business opportunities and client-focused solutions to meet the needs of investors in Asia-Pacific markets. Schiller is based in Tokyo and reports to Kunal Kapoor, head of global client solutions for Morningstar.

Before joining Morningstar, Schiller was executive managing director and Asia-Pacific region head for Standard and Poor’s in Tokyo, where he managed the Ratings and Capital IQ divisions.

“We’re pleased to have Tom on board,” Nick Cheung, chief executive officer for Morningstar Asia, said. “Tom has significant experience in Asia-Pacific financial information services, and has deep knowledge of the region and its markets. We hope to leverage his expertise to enhance our offerings for local investors, as well as expand the range of our locally relevant solutions over time.”

Schiller added, “I’m excited about this new role to help meet the unique needs of investors throughout the diverse Asia-Pacific region. The region’s financial markets are still in the early stages of development, and there are many opportunities where Morningstar can help investors navigate the course ahead.”

Schiller worked for Standard and Poor’s for 25 years, mostly in Tokyo. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., a master’s degree in history from the University of Chicago, and a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University in New York City, N.Y.

Morningstar expanded to Asia in early 2000 and now has operations in Japan, Korea, India, mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Thailand. Morningstar’s Asia-Pacific operations offer timely information on mutual funds and stocks, as well as insightful and independent analyses, ratings, and analytical tools to help both individual and professional investors make better investment decisions.
