New appointments underline SSP’s focus on big data and partnerships

SSP is looking to further develop its big data capabilities and forge even stronger insurer and partner relationships. To do this it has promoted Adrian Coupland to the newly formed role of Head of Data Services while appointing the vastly experienced Kate Mutter-Bowen in his place as Head of Insurer and Business Partner Relationships.

Coupland, who joined SSP in 2005 and has over 20 years insurance industry experience, will be responsible for its data services strategy and ensuring SSP’s distribution channel remains at the forefront of industry developments. Coupland, who led the development of the recently launched SoteriaDrive will also be responsible for SSP’s telematics proposition across all its divisions.

Coupland, said: “Over the last 18 months the use of enrichment data has moved from the margin to the mainstream of the insurance industry. The use of data across all aspects of the industry will continue to grow, and I’ll be focused on making sure that SSP’s customers are at the leading edge of data use to improve risk selection, pricing and profitability for our channel.”

He will report directly to Chief Executive Laurence Walker, who added: “We’ve created this new role because of the increasing strategic importance of data across every part of the industry value chain. Our investment in SSP Quote Hub over the last three years has helped drive this, but we now need even greater focus on this rapidly developing area. Adrian’s prior experience makes him the best man for the job, and I’m sure he’ll help maintain SSP’s leading position at the centre of insurance distribution for many years to come.”

Mutter-Bowen has a proven track record in the insurance market and brings over 20 years of invaluable experience to the role as SSP strengthens its portfolio of products and services from insurers, MGAs, aggregators and premium finance providers.

Her previous roles span relationship management and sales, and have included: Head of Relationship Management at iprism, Head of Intermediary at Groupama, and National Sales Manager - Personal Lines Intermediary at Axa.

She will report directly to Jonathan Davey, Managing Director of SSP Pure Broking and Keychoice. Welcoming her on to the team, he said: “Kate is highly respected in the insurance market at a senior level by both insurers and brokers. She’ll be a great asset to our business in driving forward our engagement strategy and further strengthening our proposition.”

Discussing the ongoing need to evolve these relationships, he added: “As a business we have to continually look at how we can maximise opportunities and have been working hard to develop our proposition. Kate’s expertise will help us explore even more new avenues and ensure we continue to provide our brokers with access to the products they need to compete in the market.”

She commented: “Strong relationships are at the heart of any good business and I will be looking to build broader commercial partnerships that significantly benefit SSP brokers and Keychoice members.”

Looking to the months and years ahead, she added: “These deeper relationships will also be beneficial to both ourselves and our partners and will help us drive the business forward and create an even more compelling proposition in future.”
