Syntel, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYNT), a global information technology services and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) firm, today announced it will sponsor two regional competitions in India organized by SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise), a global non-profit organization operating in 39 countries.
At each event, SIFE teams from leading colleges across India will compete by presenting the results of their SIFE projects that apply business concepts to outreach projects that will improve quality of life and living standards for people in need.
The projects will be judged by a panel of over 50 business leaders, and the winners will advance to the SIFE India National Competition to be held in Mumbai on July 4, 2012. One team will be named the national champion and will go on to represent India at the SIFE World Cup in Washington, D.C. later this year.
Aside from the experience gained during the competition, the events present an opportunity for young entrepreneurs to network, collaborate and learn from established business leaders.
"SIFE is an innovative program that enables students to hone their business skills by conceiving and executing a business plan from the ground up," said Farhan Pettiwala, President of SIFE India. "In addition, our emphasis on community development and sustainability is helping nurture a new generation of socially responsible business leaders."
"We are extremely grateful to Syntel for their support and commitment to this important program, and we look forward to continuing to work together to create a more prosperous, sustainable future," said Pettiwala.
SIFE was introduced in India by Syntel's Founder and Chairman, Bharat Desai. Syntel was instrumental in launching SIFE India and has been a longstanding supporter of the program and its goals.
Syntel supports SIFE as part of its broader corporate social responsibility efforts, which include S'Prayas, Syntel's own initiative to combine and organize the efforts of hundreds of Syntel employee volunteers with the mission of enriching young minds.
