Atos Origin, an international IT services company, today announced that it has won a contract to deliver a Performance and Information Management Solution to North Yorkshire Police (NYP). The new solution improves the quality, timeliness and accuracy of the information stored, to provide decision makers with fast and secure access to the information they need, when they need it.
Under the contract, Atos Origin will lead the implementation of the new solution with software from SAS, the leader in Business Intelligence software, to solve the data integration and data quality issues. North Yorkshire Police expects eventually to increase crime detections and officer efficiency, using improved predictive analysis of crimes and more effective officer deployment. It also predicts a saving of £9.7m over five years through additional efficiency and productivity gains.
“We selected the Atos Origin/SAS team because they demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of our needs and objectives and were able to supply a low risk and seamless solution,” said Superintendent Lewis Raw, of NYP and Project Director for the Management and Information project. “They put forward a strong team which combined skilled consultants with specific police systems experience using best-of breed software for both our immediate and future Information Management needs. We were able to re-use routines and mappings they had developed for South Wales Police as well, which provided cost and timescale advantages.”
“National programmes such as IMPACT and MOPI have emphasised the importance of accurate information for intelligence-led policing and the need for operational systems to share information that too often resides in a number of independent “silo” systems,” said Anne Ware, Head of Public Sector business at Atos Origin. “We will work with North Yorkshire Police to help them exploit their information sources to deliver significant operational benefits.”
Atos Origin will manage the data cleansing and transformation of accurate and non-duplicated information from a number of existing operational systems to a new Corporate Data Warehouse. During the transition of the data, it will ensure that all information held on the existing systems remains available for operational and business intelligence purposes. Atos Origin will also implement a new business intelligence reporting model from SAS to meet both the current and future needs of North Yorkshire Police.
Ian Manocha, Managing Director of SAS UK adds: “SAS is delighted that North Yorkshire Police has chosen SAS and Atos Origin for this project. We are proud that our solutions can provide more and more police forces with the means to solve their data integration and quality assurance problems in a very short timeframe, whilst, importantly, lowering the cost of maintaining their existing systems and providing operational benefit."
