Charles River Development (Charles River), an award-winning provider of financial software and services to the global investment management community, is seeing rapid adoption of the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) Protocol by its Asia-Pacific clients, including Japanese brokers seeking to increase their market share. Several leading Japanese brokerage firms, including Daiwa SMBC, Mitsubishi UFJ, Mizuho and Nomura, leverage the Charles River FIX Network for direct-connect access to Charles River’s 18 Japanese buy-side clients and trading desks worldwide.
The Charles River Network, which is fully integrated with the Charles River Investment Management System (Charles River IMS), allows local Japanese brokers and buy-side firms to deal directly with one another and international brokers, ensuring quick and reliable communication with hundreds of leading trading venues globally. According to Charles River, the standard FIX protocol, and connectivity between sell-side and buy-side firms, is driving industry trends such as algorithmic trading, electronic communication networks (ECNs), alternative trading systems (ATSs) and dark pools.
“Charles River is the only provider in Asia-Pacific that offers comprehensive remote FIX administration services – from testing and certification, to configuration and monitoring,” says Cameron Field, Managing Director–Asia Pacific, Charles River Development. “As a result, firms can realize seamless trading with both the Japanese and international markets without additional in-house IT resources or FIX expertise. We are also the only provider in the region that can tailor FIX to leverage specialties of individual brokers. This allows buy-side clients to take advantage of a broker’s special capabilities, such as algorithmic trading, program trading or special order types.”
