Deal Enhances AmbironTrustWave’s Position in the “Threat Management” Security Category
CHICAGO – June 1, 2006 – AmbironTrustWave, the leading provider of data security and compliance management technology and solutions, has acquired Philadelphia-based Lucid Security, a leading provider of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) technology. The terms of the deal are confidential.
The acquisition of Lucid Security – creator of ipANGEL™, the world’s only adaptive, intelligent, intrusion prevention solution – positions AmbironTrustWave as a leader in the “Threat Management” security appliance category. Threat Management security appliances are defined as a combination of hardware, software and networking technologies on a single platform that performs multiple security functions.
ipANGEL represents a departure from the “threat-centric” IPS products that dominate the marketplace. ipANGEL leverages a patent-pending predictive technology that employs an “asset-centric” approach by first identifying the unique vulnerabilities of the information assets it protects, and then profiling and filtering only those exploits that pose a unique threat to those assets.
AmbironTrustWave will continue to support the ipANGEL brand for the legacy Lucid Security product line. ipANGEL offers automated tuning and signature updates, which ensures that vulnerability signatures are automatically deployed without the need for additional staff drastically lowering the total cost of IPS for end users. ipANGEL received a rating of 4 out of 5 stars from SC Magazine in the publication’s bakeoff of IPS appliances. The publication concluded that ipANGEL 4.0 provided “…real-time protection with solutions for any size network.”1
“This acquisition enables us to serve our vast client base with leading edge technology that can detect and stop attacks without compromising network performance,” said Robert J. McCullen, CEO of AmbironTrustWave. “Equally important is that intrusion prevention technologies play a critical role in helping business comply with the latest regulations such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.”
Vik Phatak, the founder of Lucid Technology, will become the Chief Technology Officer of AmbironTrustWave reporting to Mr. McCullen. Mr. Phatak is a highly regarded computer network security expert and has presented at leading industry conferences including Computer Security Institute (CSI) and Information Security Decisions.
“The combination of AmbironTrustWave’s data security and compliance expertise with the leading-edge ipANGEL technology creates a powerful value proposition for any organization that is trying to secure information assets,” added Phatak.
