ASSET MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS TOP PEREGRINE CUSTOMERS’ CHRISTMAS ‘WISH LISTS’ 85 per cent see compliance as key driver next year

Peregrine Systems, a leading provider of IT asset and service management software, has asked customers what technology purchases are at the top of their IT ‘wish lists’ this Christmas, and found that a third would like to incorporate an asset management solution to address key priorities, including compliance. Eighty five per cent expect compliance to be the most significant issue of the New Year. Other IT purchases customers would like to make include IT consulting resources and business process management (BPM) tools.

Since 2002, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) has brought significant changes to the regulation of financial practices and corporate governance. Today, SOX continues to put significant pressure on IT organisations, which must assess and document the effect of IT controls over the financial reporting system. Asset Management solutions like Peregrine’s AssetCenter help ensure compliance through increased asset tracking and financial and contractual awareness.

"Peregrine’s customers are looking to get back to the basics of asset management in an effort to address compliance needs, while seeing cost and time savings," said Deborah Traub, senior vice president of product delivery at Peregrine. "Customers clearly remain concerned about the challenges presented by SOX. IT Asset Management serves as the foundation to SOX compliance, enabling organisations to demonstrate controls over what hardware and software enters their infrastructure."

A key component of Peregrine’s AssetCenter solution is the Software Asset Management application, which proactively manages all aspects of software licence compliance, entitlement, and utilisation. Companies can create and manage their software contracts to ensure compliance and avoid over-purchasing and automatically track license counts and detailed software installation. Software Asset Management can also automate the process of determining who is actually using software assets and automatically checks license availability before purchase of new ones and automates the asset retirement process, including license recapture upon disposal. Combined, these features help customers gain increased control to improve operational effectiveness.
