Panopticon’s Excel Mapper gets Microsoft seal of approval

July 26, 2004, Stockholm, Sweden – Panopticon, the supplier of real-time visualisation tools, today announced that Microsoft will be listing their Spreadsheet Mapper product in Microsoft’s Office System Solutions directory. The directory provides customers and Microsoft field representatives around the world with information about customer-ready Microsoft Office-based business solutions.

Detailed Solution
Says Willem De Geer, CEO of Panopticon, “Today we have most of our clients in banking and asset management. Microsoft’s decision to list us in their world-wide directory is great news for Panopticon’s heat mapping and for visualization technology in general as it will spread the words to other areas in finance as well.”

The Spreadsheet Mapper is a unique Excel add-in based on the heat mapping technologies developed by Panopticon. The solution quickly creates heat maps using both historic and real-time data stored in Excel to enable rapid data analysis.

Panopticon’s visualization technology provides an instant visual representation of large amounts of data using size, color, and category. Heat mapping facilitates faster and more efficient human comprehension, it turns information into colorful graphics which stimulate analytical thought and encourage professional instinct. The technology enables fast three dimensional visual analysis of large data sets and help clients discern otherwise invisible patterns.

While in Excel, Spreadsheet Mapper's heat maps are live, and data is updated automatically whenever the data source changes in real time. The heat maps stay functional when pasted into such ActiveX containers as MS PowerPoint and Word.

The heat map tool can easily illustrate the performance of each component contained in a user's financial portfolio against an index. It also allows the user to focus on a specific data set and drill up or down, zoom in or out, as well as filter. The Spreadsheet Mapper can be used with data sources contained in Excel, including Web queries, delimited- or fixed-record text files, XML files, and ODBC or OLE database-enabled data sources. As an example, a data source could be a Microsoft SQL Server that provides real-time data feeds from leading providers of financial data.
