14th July 14, 2004 - London - The London Stock Exchange (The Exchange) and Accenture have been confirmed as official sponsors of this year's Financial News IT Excellence in Investment Banking Awards, to be held at the Merchant Taylor's Hall on 22nd September. The awards, now in their second year, recognise the efforts of those institutions striving to deliver more effective banking processes and reduced risk. The Exchange and Accenture will be joined by investment bankers from a range of Europe's top-tier financial institutions who will gather to honour those individuals and banks at the forefront of technological progress in their industry.
The Exchange and Accenture have decided to sponsor the awards in recognition of the importance of IT innovation within the investment banking industry. David Lester, Chief Information Officer at the Exchange, comments:
"Despite the economic climate of the past years, IT budgets within Financial Services have actually increased year on year since 2001, and for a good reason. Technology is the key to future prosperity of the investment banking industry. The London Stock Exchange prides itself on its technology capabilities and is delighted to join Financial News in recognising and congratulating other technologically progressive members of the investment community."
Robin Smyth-Osbourne, UK Head of Capital Markets, Accenture, comments:
"Technology has a crucial role to play in helping deliver greater performance, both to the financial sector and other industries. Accenture has an enduring commitment to delivering innovation and is proud to support a forum in which technological advancement is recognised and celebrated in this way."
Many of last year's winners, which included Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, Bloomberg, and Royal Bank of Scotland, have been nominated for awards again this year. Awards will be presented in 14 categories, ranging from Best IT Department and Best Personal Contribution to Best Strategic Outsourcing and Best Risk Management Initiatives. The awards will be judged by a distinguished panel of over 40 European banks, consultants, electronic brokerages and vendors.
