Overview
Gissing Shared Data Server (SDS)
The cost effective solution to sharing internal data via a Reuters market data platform.

Sharing your own data with other users via your market data platform can be complex and expensive. Alternative products base their license fee on the number of data items made available - effectively you have to pay someone else to share your own data!

The Gissing Shared Data Server (SDS) was developed in response to client demand to address these issues; it provides similar data distribution capability to proprietary products, but without any data manipulation or processing functions.

Gissing SDS provides an SSL source in a Triarch or RMDS environment. The source receives data from your existing in-house applications such as OpenLink, Reuters PowerPlus Pro or Gissing RealtimeXL and makes it available via the Reuters Market Data Hub and Point to Point Server (SSL 4.0) or publishes it to multiple SSL sink applications (SSL 4.5).

Other users in your organisation, whether they are using Reuters Kobra, Reuters PowerPlus Pro or Gissing RealtimeXL for example, will be able to share and work with the republished data in the same way they can with any standard Reuters data source. And should you require multiple sources in your market data environment, you can run multiple instances of Gissing SDS on a single fault-tolerant pair of machines.

Gissing SDS is highly cost-effective, it has a simple annual license—there are no fees based on the volume of data.

Remote monitoring
Monitoring Gissing SDS from anywhere on the same network is enabled via the built-in web server—connect using a standard web browser.

Interconnection of two sinks
Gissing SDS enables the interconnection, or bridging, of two applications which are both SSL sinks. Since sinks cannot directly communicate with one another, Gissing SDS provides both with a source, enabling exchange of data.

Fault tolerant configuration
Fault tolerance is achieved by two instances of Gissing SDS each receiving data from your in-house applications, the live one will republish this data, while the backup will take over automatically should the live one fail.

Data persistence
Gissing SDS optionally stores all its data to disk. This allows “warm restarts” without risking any loss of data.

Support for both SSL 4.0. and SSL 4.5
Gissing SDS is available in two versions, a source to connect to a source distributor for SSL 4.0, and a source that enables multiple sink connections for SSL 4.5.

Dynamic data support
Gissing SDS does not require data templates; whatever data it receives is published in the same format.

Simple memory management
Gissing SDS imposes no artificial limit on the cache size: it’s limited only by the physical memory size of the machine it’s running on. It uses a pre-emptive cache, so that once the cache is full it removes the oldest unreferenced record to insert the new record.
