TMX Atrium adds Moscow and Amsterdam connectivity options

26 September 2013

Capital markets infrastructure services provider, TMX Atrium, has finished upgrading its connectivity link from Frankfurt into Amsterdam, after earlier this week opening up the Frankfurt Moscow Exchange link further by improving its pricing and capacity options. The vendor relies on the FR2 data centre run by Equinix in Frankfurt, Germany, to offer co-lo services and provide a base to power its connectivity options.

The new routes boost opportunities for financial market participants looking to trade between the liquidity centres of Frankfurt and Amsterdam, as well as out to locations such as Moscow and London, via the growing network.

In Q1 2013, TMX Atrium completed multiple Moscow route enhancements including an upgraded ultra-low latency path between London, Stockholm and Moscow and on the 25th September, announced their build out to Moscow from Frankfurt FR2 data centre. This series of on-going upgrades is intended to offer TMX Atrium clients high-speed, high-capacity, fully diverse connectivity paths into and out of the major liquidity centres in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, and to give them a framework to base trading strategies around.

Commenting on the moves, Emmanuel Carjat, managing director of TMX Atrium, said: “As firms seek to broaden trading strategies and meet the growing regulatory drive for diversity into and out of key financial centres, offering a wide range of options and access to multiple markets is critical. We can connect clients located in the Equinix FR2 IBX data centre to other key locations such as Moscow, as well as provide quick and easy access into key markets and venues located across North America, Europe and Russia. Equally we can connect clients outside the Equinix FR2 IBX data centre to the venues and services located in FR2.”

In regard to the new Dutch route, he added: “Amsterdam has a rich history of options trading and we anticipate this will continue as more options move to electronic trading.”

For Dick Theunissen, European marketing head at Equinix, the partnership with TMX Atrium is a win-win. “We’re delighted that TMX Atrium consistently recognises the benefits of presence within an Equinix data centre. In 2012, TMX Atrium completed their reach into the Equinix NY4 data centre in New York; now TMX Atrium members can expand their reach into the Equinix FR2 IBX facility in Frankfurt. In turn, Equinix clients located in FR2 can easily access the growing TMX Atrium community.”
