CGI Initiative for Collaborative Government explores cybersecurity and mobility in the latest Leadership journal

7 February 2012

Through mobile technologies, people, data and infrastructure are connected instantly and globally. If unprotected, cyber attacks can compromise data, shut down operations or endanger citizens. The universal challenge of cybersecurity is one of the hottest topics in boardrooms, federal agencies, by Congress and was addressed by President Obama in his State of the Union address. In the Winter 2012 issue of the CGI Initiative for Collaborative Government’s Leadership journal, senior government and industry leaders provide insights on the topic of cybersecurity and mobility.

In “Securing the Mobile Frontier,” leaders address a wide range of issues, from mobile supply chain to user behavior and the need for government-industry collaboration. Insights include:

“I am concerned about what we cannot see. This is where connecting the dots, as it were, in cyberspace is so critically important, where we have the ability of government and industry to share the kind of information that’s going to protect us.” – Gregory Garcia, Former Bank of America Executive for Cybersecurity and Identity Management, and the first Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications, Department of Homeland Security

“The mobile environment has added a whole new dimension to what it means to secure our enterprise. It’s not quite the Wild West, but we are still on the frontier when it comes to securing mobile devices and determining how they connect reliably to an overall network. There is a cyber ecosystem that must be managed, and mobile devices are just a part of the bigger picture.” – Barbara Fast, Fellow, CGI Initiative for Collaborative Government

“The CGI Initiative for Collaborative Government’s Leadership journal on “Securing the Mobile Frontier” addresses a critical challenge that a national Federal mobility strategy must overcome to succeed – securing the use of mobile devices.” – Andrew McLauchlin, Executive Director, CGI Initiative for Collaborative Government
