London, December 15th, 2004 - The largest retailer in Europe will equip 70 of its supermarkets with Opteva® automated teller machines (ATMs) made by Diebold, Incorporated, a global leader in providing integrated self-service and security solutions.
Carrefour Group recently ordered Diebold's Opteva® ATMs for placement in its Champion supermarkets. The supermarkets will add Opteva lobby cash dispensers to its in-store ATM fleet. The Diebold unit offers advanced functionalities such as dispensing of coupons and tickets, delivery of marketing messages, funds transfers, balance inquiries and more. Colette Le Ménager, Champion's director of cash register hardware, said the new Diebold units will renew the supermarket chain's ATM pool.
"In our shops, ATMs are a service we offer our clients, and we want it to be the best service possible," Le Ménager said. "Before placing this order, we had received detailed offers from all players in the market, and Diebold's Opteva was the only one that met our needs. Beyond the classic ATM functions, Diebold lets our clients access other services such as the purchase of concert tickets. The advanced functionality of the Opteva line permits us to easily put these options in place for our customers."
The Opteva family of ATMs, which now includes seven units, was launched in Europe in 2003 in Paris. To date, more than 20,000 Opteva ATMs have been purchased by some of the world's leading financial institutions. The Opteva family covers most every possible self-service application for the ATM, and was designed for high performance, maximum security, superior reliability and serviceability. The open design is powered by Agilis®, Diebold's high performance software, which is capable of interfacing with a variety of multiple vendor products, reducing the need for back-end support.
Henrik Funch, division vice president for Diebold Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA), said the business relationship between Diebold and Champion is a natural fit.
"Diebold and Champion are both leaders in the European market," Funch said. "Just like Champion's customers expect the highest-quality service from the supermarket chain, Diebold's customers expect the highest-quality performance from our self-service solutions. We are proud Champion has selected Diebold to help deliver a level of service and security that only Opteva can provide."
Champion plans to replace its older units with the new Diebold Opteva 520s. Installation of the units is expected to be complete by the end of 2004.
