VITRIA LAUNCHES ENTERPRISE-CLASS BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT SOLUTION FOR SERVICE-ORIENTED ARCHITECTURES

Vitria:BusinessWare 4.3 Makes Complex Process Integration Easier To Manage

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Monday, Dec. 13, 2004-Vitria (Nasdaq: VITR), a leading provider of business process integration solutions, today announced the general availability of Vitria:BusinessWare™ 4.3. This new version of its award-winning business process integration platform has been enhanced to provide significant new capabilities for enterprise Business Process Management (BPM), web services, human workflow, high-performance XML processing and trading partner integration. Vitria:BusinessWare 4.3 has new standards-based features for system monitoring and alerting, system management and security administration, making complex integration projects more manageable. In addition, the new release has been reconfigured to serve as a more powerful platform for organizations combining the best of event-driven, document-centric and service-oriented architectures (SOAs).

"As SOAs move on from simple point-to-point web service enablement to true business service execution, companies discover that converting their existing software assets into reusable services is only the first step," said Dale Skeen, CEO and founder, Vitria. "Vitria:BusinessWare 4.3 takes our customers well beyond this by combining services and other integration technologies to support more complex business processes such as claims lifecycle, order lifecycle and financial straight-through processing. And with version 4.3, all the integration components are now easier to manage than ever before."

Vitria:BusinessWare 4.3 supports SOAs at three levels: 1) enabling existing software assets to be componentized into reusable "building block" services; 2) providing enterprise-class BPM capabilities to aggregate and orchestrate these services with each other and with non-service elements of event-driven architectures; and 3) incorporating service-oriented design principles with platform-level services for exception handling, logging and audit, document storage and reference and trading partner management. These centralized services reduce the difficulty of modeling and managing complex processes. In addition, all process and integration elements created in Vitria:BusinessWare 4.3 can easily be componentized for reuse and made available externally as services.

"Working with Vitria, we built a new order management system that spans all our existing systems and allows for near real-time management of the customer ordering process, from request through delivery," said David Mewes, VP and CIO, MasterBrand Cabinets, a Fortune Brands company. "Vitria:BusinessWare 4.3 will enable us to make better use of existing IT assets in the areas of system management, security and administration. The advanced modeling tools and emphasis on component reusability will also make implementation and maintenance less time-consuming - a major challenge with a complex BPM and integration implementation such as our own."

Vitria:BusinessWare 4.3 - New Features & Functionality:
§ Advanced BPM - New exception handling wizards, iterative processes, conditional forks and dynamic sub-model resolution simplify implementing complex process steps that normally require extensive modeling or coding

§ Workflow Enhancements - Improves user productivity via a new workflow interface, new pre-defined roles, definition of virtual roles, ad hoc workflow enablement, and data availability to remote systems as well as in-process clients

§ Security and Administration - New Configurable Security Framework based on JAAS can be tailored to support a variety of security needs; leverages existing third party products for defining user roles, managing access control, securing password storage, and providing single sign-on to multiple systems in addition to the out of box security services provided
§ Trading Partner Integration - Enhanced compatibility with ebXML and Applicability Statement 2 (AS2); new platform-level service providing unified view of partner relationship data, security certificates, and security credentials

All the enhancements made with version 4.3 complement or build on the platform’s strengths gained from more than seven years of delivering business process-centric integration solutions to customers, making Vitria:BusinessWare the most mature and proven "enterprise-class" BPM solution on the market today. These areas of strength include: state-based management of long-running business processes, transaction management, application connectivity, transport independence, business process analysis, and clustering/load balancing for scalability, among others.
